Welcome to the site of the TransCanada Province of the Spiritans. We are a Roman Catholic Religious Congregation of over three thousand members, founded in 1703. Our missions are spread worldwide. While we may be found involved in many diverse ministries, we have dedicated ourselves to working with the poor and in those situations where the Church has difficulty in finding ministers. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site and that while browsing you will keep us in your prayers. May God bless you.

Spiritan House of Vocational Discernment,

The Des Places Community,

Opens in Scarborough, Ontario

September 2007

In September 2007, the Spiritans opened a new community house in southwestern Scarborough, Ontario. The Des Places Community, named for our founder Claude-François Poullart des Places, was set up as a community of discernment to help young men who are contemplating a vocation to the priesthood or brotherhood with the Spiritans. Those who have applied to join the Spiritans and have been accepted, come first to this house as postulants or candidates to experience our Religious community so as to help them discern whether or not they are indeed called to the Spiritan missionary way of life. The candidates are invited to spend a year in the Des Places Community during which time they continue with their regular day job or pursue further studies.

The Spiritans offer a programme of daily Mass, common prayer and shared meals to introduce the candidates to Religious life. During the year there will also be special days of reflection and retreat to help the candidates to deepen their spirituality as well as to help the Spiritans to get to know the candidates better. Each candidate is encouraged to have a Spiritual Director apart from the director of the Des Places Community.

At the end of the year, after prayer, discernment and consultation, the candidate may be invited by the Spiritans to go on to the next and more formal stage of his vocational training, the Novitiate Year. If you feel you might be called to the Spiritans, please contact our Vocations Director.

New Ordination

On Saturday July 28th, 2007, Anthony Trinh Quang Le, CSSp was ordained to the priesthood in Houston, Texas. The ordination ceremony presided over by The Most Reverend Joe S. Vasquez (Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston) was attended by hundreds of friends and supporters of Trinh as well as by many Spiritans from North America. Fr. Trinh's vocation goes back many years when he was growing up in Vietnam. His studies for the priesthood were interrupted by the end of the Vietnam war and the events that followed. Eventually making his way to the United States, Trinh came into contact with the Spiritans and resumed his journey to the priesthood. The Spiritans are indeed blessed by the presence of Fr. Trinh and others like him who seek to spread the Good News to a world that is thirsting for God.
