- Meet Brother Theo
- Br. Theodore Pierre, CSSp is a good example of the type of young Spiritan emerging in the 3rd millennium. A native of the Indian Ocean island of Madagascar, Theo joined the Spiritans as a mature man in his late twenties. He is a qualified nurse and trained as a medical lab technician in France.
- Br. Theo's first appointment was to Papua New Guinea en route to which he stopped off in Australia to learn English and to meet fellow Spiritans in that country. In New Guinea he joined an international team with representatives from Nigeria, Ireland, Madagascar and Canada. His arrival in his new mission coincided almost to the day with the tsunami that spread death and destruction along the north west coast of New Guinea in July of 1998. His medical skills were needed right away and with scarcely a word of the local language he found himself ministering to the thousands of victims of
- the dreadful tragedy. It is an experience he is not likely to forget.
- Br. Theo is now part of Callan Services an organisation founded from St. Benedict's Teachers College, Wewak, to cater to the educational needs of children with hearing disabilities. Callan Services is the first of its kind in that part of the world and is making it possible for dozens of children to receive a basic education.
- So Br. Theo is a mature vocation from a former "mission country"; he highly trained, speaks several languages, is part of an international team and is catering to a very marginalised group in a remote corner of the world. How more Spiritan can one get.
