Father
EDWARD COLLETON, CSSp of the Spiritan Province of TransCanada passed
away peacefully at 9:30pm on April 26, 2011 at La Salle Manor,
Scarborough where he had resided since March 2007.
Father
Ted was born in Dublin July 20th,
1913. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 23rd
1940.
During his 70 years as a priest he served in a variety of pastoral works
in Kenya (1942-1969), England, Ireland and came to Canada in 1971. Father
Ted was briefly assistant director of VICS, worked on the National Mission
Council, the Spiritan Mission Office, and as assistant pastor at St.
Rita’s Parish, Woodstock, Ontario.
Fr.
Ted will be especially remembered for his dedication to Pro-Life Ministry
and Campaign Life. He gave thousands of homilies that preached the Culture
of Life, appeared on television and radio and spoke to pro-life and
church groups from coast to coast. He published two autobiographies
which greatly helped the pro-life movement.
He
was ever ready to take on the challenges that life and ministry brought
his way and truly made a difference as a priest. He was a powerful witness
of solidarity, hope, prayer, devotion to the Sacraments and the Rosary.
Rest in Peace.
