Welcome to the site of the TransCanada Province of the Spiritans. We are a Roman Catholic Religious Congregation of over three thousand members, founded in 1703. Our missions are spread worldwide. While we may be found involved in many diverse ministries, we have dedicated ourselves to working with the poor and in those situations where the Church has difficulty in finding ministers. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site and that while browsing you will keep us in your prayers. May God bless you.

Laval Day Celebrations - September 2005

The Mauritian community of Toronto and area came together on Sunday September 11th, 2005 to celebrate the feast of the Spiritan's Blessed Jacques Laval. The Mass was held at the Church of Saint Louis-de-France in Toronto, presided over by Fr. Paul McAuley, CSSp. The Mass was proceeded by a video presentation showing highlights of the late Pope John Paul II's visit to the island of Mauritius. Fr. Obinna Ifeanyi, CSSp, a recently ordained Spiritan priest from Nigeria gave the homily and spoke to the congregation about the importance of forgiveness and the example Fr. Laval gave us in his acceptance of hardships and criticism as he worked with the underprivileged of Mauritian society. After the Mass, Mr. Didier Luchmun read greetings from Maurice Piat, CSSp, Bishop of Port-Louis. No Mauritian gathering would be complete without a wonderful meal. Everybody had brought their own special dish and all was shared out over the rest of the afternoon. The weather was perfect for the day and all who attended took home good memories of another Laval Day celebration.

The church of Saint Louis-de-France in Toronto where Mauritians from all over the greater Toronto area gathered to celebrate their "saint."

Didier Luchmun welcomed all to the celebration. Alain Lan & his choir provided festive music in three languages, French, English and Creole.

The church was filled for the afternoon celebration presided over by Fr. Paul McAuley, CSSp joined by several other Spiritan priests.

As with the celebration on Laval Day every year, there was more than enough good food. A wonderful taste of Mauritius.

Fr. Obinna Ifeanyi, CSSp, recently appointed to Canada from Nigeria, preached the homily.

Fr. Loughlin Flanagan, CSSp, the newly elected Provincial of the Spiritans of TransCanada chats with the MC, Didier Luchmun.

Prayer in Honour of Jacques Laval

Heavenly Father, we thank you
for the life and work of Jacques Laval, for this reminder of Your Son
and His plan to gather all people.
May Your Spirit widen our horizons and enlarge our hearts.
In all seasons, help us to pray.
Give us eyes to see the possibilities in unpromising situations.
Grant us to heed the cry of the poor and the terrible silence of the oppressed.

Ground our respect for each other, men and women, black and white, in Your love for each of us.
Overcome our reluctance to trust each other.
And if it please You, heavenly Father, give Jacques Laval
to Your Church as an official guide along the way. Stretch out Your hand in power.
Through his intercession, work new wonders.
AMEN
