Sunday February
3rd, 2002 saw the launching of the Spiritan Year for the Spiritans of
the TransCanada Province. A wonderfully festive mass was held at the
Spiritan parish of St. Joseph's in Toronto, Canada. Fr. Pat
Fitzpatrick, TransCanada's Provincial Superior and chief celebrant at
the liturgy welcomed Spiritan friends, family, supporters and
representatives of other Religious Congregations as he pointed out
how international the Spiritans have become. Fr. Hyacinth Edokwe, a
Nigerian Spiritan, delivered an inspired homily challenging all to
renewal and continued evangelization. The Knights of Columbus added
reverent ceremony to this beautiful liturgy woven together by the
magnificent singing of the St. Joseph's choir. After the mass, the
large crowd gathered in the church hall to continue to celebrate this
special day. In the hall, the Spiritans unveiled their new video and
promotional campaign for the Spiritan Year. As the sun set on this
cool winter's evening and as the crowd departed, the Spiritans of
TransCanada could be thankful for such a promising beginning to the
Spiritan Year.
