Growth
It
all starts
as
a seed,
doesn't
it?
Like
one of those
lima-sized
runnerbean
experiments
in
grade one
when
you can see the sprouts
poke
out from the soggy kleenex wads
in
your jam jar.
One
up
And
one down.
(The
roots and stem
define
themselves
later.)
But
at first
The
two lifebuds
are
the same,
going
in different directions
like
the tilted footplank
of
the orthodox cross, pointing
(one
toward heaven,
one
toward the depths.)
The
seed's journey-energy
is
spent
in
growing
both
roots
and tentacles.
