Welcome to the site of the TransCanada Province of the Spiritans. We are a Roman Catholic Religious Congregation of over three thousand members, founded in 1703. Our missions are spread worldwide. While we may be found involved in many diverse ministries, we have dedicated ourselves to working with the poor and in those situations where the Church has difficulty in finding ministers. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site and that while browsing you will keep us in your prayers. May God bless you.

Fr. Philip Forde, CSSp

August 23rd, 1926 - April 30th, 2006

I lift up my eyes to the hills.
Where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.

Psalm 121:1-2

The TransCanada Province of the Spiritans remembers one of its former beloved confreres, Fr. Philip Forde, CSSp. A native of Maraval, Trinidad, Fr. Philip made his first vows with the Spiritans on September 8th, 1947 and three years later to the day made perpetual vows. He was ordained to the priesthood on July 5th, 1953 and appointed to Nigeria (arriving in August of 1954) where he served in a number of teaching positions in eastern Nigeria. In February 1967, upon the outbreak of the Biafran war, Fr. Philip returned to Trinidad and worked in St. Mary's College, Port of Spain. From 1969 to 1971, Fr. Philip was assigned to an all boys military academy in Pawhaton, Virginia where he taught for two years. From 1971-1975, he took up parish work at St. Pascal Baylon Parish in St. Albans, New York. In 1975, the TransCanada Province of the Spiritans invited Fr. Philip to minister here in Ontario. He took up a teaching position at St. Joseph's College School, Wellesley St. in Toronto. From 1977-1985, he served as Director of the Caribbean Catholic Secretariat and Chaplaincy in Toronto (CARI-TO), which eventually became Our Lady of Good Counsel (The Caribbean Centre).

For the next number of years, Fr. Forde worked tirelessly in fundraising and promotion for the TransCanada Province and is fondly remembered by his fellow Knights of Columbus who assisted him in fundraising efforts through weekly Bingo at the Columbus Hall in Toronto. He returned to his native Trinidad in 2000 where he once again took up parish duties in Delaford, Tobago and finally in his hometown of Maraval, Trinidad. On Sunday April 30th, 2006, Fr. Philip quietly slipped from this life. He will be missed by his family, friends, and all those whom he served over the years in Nigeria, the United States, Canada and Trinidad. Rest in Peace.
