Welcome to the site of the TransCanada Province of the Spiritans. We are a Roman Catholic Religious Congregation of over three thousand members, founded in 1703. Our missions are spread worldwide. While we may be found involved in many diverse ministries, we have dedicated ourselves to working with the poor and in those situations where the Church has difficulty in finding ministers. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site and that while browsing you will keep us in your prayers. May God bless you.

Fr. Peter Fleming, CSSp

October 20th, 1930 - May 5th, 2006

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39

The TransCanada Province of the Spiritans remembers one of its beloved confreres, Fr. Peter Fleming, CSSp. A native of Dublin, Ireland, Fr. Peter made his first vows with the Spiritans on September 8th, 1950 and six years later made perpetual vows. He was ordained to the priesthood on July 13th, 1958 and appointed to Canada (arriving on the 4th of July 1959) where he served as teacher, Vice Principal and Principal of Neil McNeil Catholic Secondary School. Fr. Peter was devoted to teaching, to the staff and students and to all that was and is "Neil McNeil." He retired from teaching in June of 1991 but continued with Chaplaincy work for the Toronto Catholic District School Board (T.C.D.S.B.). In June of 1994, Fr. Peter accepted an appointment as Associate Pastor of St. Joseph's Parish in West Hill, Ontario. Prior to this actual appointment, because of his love of music, he had always been connected with the parish and was well known and loved as the parish choir director. On January 15th, 2001, Fr. Peter became the Pastor of St. Joseph's, remaining there until his retirement in the summer of 2005. He moved to Shanahan House, the Spiritan community nearby St. Joseph's, and continued to help out at times in the parish whenever he was needed. Fr. Peter was a man of many talents and through his semi-annual pilgrimages to the various holy sites in Europe and the Holy Land, he touched the lives of an even wider constituency than Neil McNeil and St. Joseph's.

He will be missed by his Spiritan confreres, family, friends, and all those whom he served over the years. Fr. Peter leaves behind his brother Finbar and sister-in-law, Rita, his brother Derek and sister-in-law, Philomena, as well as, his sister Mary. He is pre-deceased by his parents, John and Nancy, and by sisters Olive and Cynthia. Rest in Peace.
